New Rules From January 2013
New age and power rules apply from January 2013,
Talk to us for details but 3 main changes,
First is you have to be 24 to do Direct Access, And the bikes need to be 600cc.
Second, There is a new Category A2 which you can do at 19, Then you can ride any size but 46.5 BHP only. There is no Automatic upgrade after 2 years.
Third if you take the test on a 125cc, you can only ride a 125cc and you no longer get an automatic upgrade after two years.
The Short explanation is,
You have to take the test on whatever size bike you want to ride.
You can ride a 125 at 17yrs, A medium 46BHP bike at 19yrs or a Big Bike at 24yrs.
If you take the Medium (A2) test, you can take the Big Bike test two years later, so you could be on a full power Big Bike at 21yrs.
Here is The DSAs official explanation.
We have just changed our entire fleet, the 125s are still the same but new 2012 bikes The 500s have gone and we have shiny new Suzuki SFV 650s.One reason we like these is they have gear position display which is helping new riders, they also have ABS which has helped with confidence whilst doing emergency stops. We have added OXFORD heated grips.
So far the Customers have all loved riding these bikes.
If you want to take the new A2 test, you will still be on the Suzuki 650s but it will be restricted
